No 4 Mine, Deans
A Farewell t' the Auld Steam Couples
Bob and Jock a sturdy pair
O' honest work youv'e din yer share
Ye puffed and blew wae micht and main
Day or nicht was just the same
Ye helped each ither up the brae
Wa' heavy loads frae day ta day
A lesson thus ta mankind given
Put in practice on earth a heaven
Na' laziness ye ever had
Unless of course when steam was bad
Then ye widna' budge a wheel
Till pressure g'id and a' was weal
Youv'e served your age and made youre name
Now ither gear has come ta' fame
Na' mair we'll hear exhaust to beat
Your welcome ta' the workers greet
A tear may come a canna' hide
But workin' costs now doth decide
Ther's little use to sit and brood
Your throttles closed I fear for good
Your day is done, it's all too true
So fare ye weel, a fond adieu.

John was a "winding man" and so was probably
in charge of the cage as well.
