On the Death of a Veteran Agriculturist,
in the Person of Robert Buchannan,
Livingston Mill, in his 84th year.

A personality - and so distinguished,
Now he rests, life extinguished,
He did co-operate with Nature's hand,
To fertilise and till the land,
As peasants did in days of old,
To increase ear to forty fold.

His quiet and unassuming ways,
Gained many friends in these long days,
For integrity and honest dealing,
No truer entered any sheiling.
To hear him tell of days gone by,
The young would listen to edify.

Now he's returned to Mother Earth,
The land has claimed - that gave him birth.
As life we know has many turns,
Let's now recall the words of Burns,
It there's another world he lives in bliss,
If there is none, he made the best of this.

Resigned to his post
We put to rest
They loved him most
Who new him best.
