On Lady Torphichen's Christmas Treat
to Mid-Calder School Children.
A Lady fair the children treats,
She fills their hearts with joy,
They all of them get lots of sweets,
And each a little toy.
What consolation it must be,
For a heart most generous kind,
To see the children full of glee,
Cares and sorrow left behind.
Their praises now the children sing,
None could better willed,
For good cheer, she did bring,
Their hearts with gladness filled.
Not, I'm sure, for love of fame,
Nor praises great or small,
But, to reverence that holy name,
Of one who died for all.
